Golf Club Grips - The Good & Bad Grip

Although the above-mentioned rules are not the official ones that need to be followed to the letter, they do help the golfers everywhere to experiment and improve their grips. No matter what grip you use in the end, the most important factor while you take that swing is that you must consistently hit the golf ball with the square face of the club head.

Following are some effective tips and tricks regarding golf club grips which when used effectively, can help you do wonders on the golf course:

How to grip the golf club?

As specified earlier, there are no pre-defined rules about the golf club grips. Therefore, you must opt for the one that you are most comfortable with. Still, there are few basic factors you must consider when beginning to learn about gripping the golf club. These factors will eventually lead you to your perfect grip.

To start with, you must move the head of the club down towards the ground in a way that you were just about to hit the ball. In case you are right handed (the left handed people may please follow all the instructions in reverse), you must remove your right hand from the grip and let your left hand alone take the control.

From hereon, start moving the grip in a manner that your fingers instead of the palms take control of the grip. Do another finger adjustment so that your left hand thumb is pointing down towards the club length. To get the final grip, place your left hand along with the grip into your right hand. While doing this you must ensure that the crease on your right hand gets placed over the left. Once here, it is all a matter of pulling the trigger with your right hands thumb and index finger, which are on the grip.

Now that you have a basic idea about how to experiment and get onto the best grip, you will slowly start feeling more and more comfortable.

The size of the Grip

This is another very important factor that comes into play while you take that swing. An uncomfortable grip can significantly affect the quality of your swing, as you will either be using too much or too less of your hands. You must look for a grip that helps your left hand to get around the golf club grip properly.

You can take the help of your local golf dealer who can assist you in finding the grip size that is just right for you. Every golfer has a different grip and there is no uniform size available in the market. Following the above-mentioned basic techniques and experimenting constantly with the grip will help you find yours soon.

Why are people slamming the pec deck?

If you look on google and other weight training manuals they often believe pec decks and flies are rubbish compared to other chest exercises. I'm not sure what to believe, my experience of them is after dumbbell press 3x10 reps - When I go onto my gym's pec deck (there is no 'cushion' pad for the arms, just a rubber grip and adjustable slot ranges and adjustable with elbow positions) and complete 3x10 reps of that. By the end of the exercise I know I have that recognisable burn feeling and broken up jellyness as if I've gone up a cup size (joking, im a dude...no really).

So why the bad rep of the pec deck amongsts some gurus? Is it like when people think sit ups work the abs but really they don't. I don't get it.

I haven't any much trashing of the Pec Deck machines. These "gurus" must be writing for a narrow target audience, as many individuals, for whatever reason, can benefit from the machines.

Considering they're an alternate to dumbbell or cable flies, I can't possibly see any reason to bash them as ineffective. They do work if done properly.
