do you recommend using channellock pliers to get an oil filter out thats stuck?
Absolutely, I have done this many many times. You will not break the oil filter regardless of what anyone says if you take your time and grab it by the rippled area. That is where the most support is so it will not crush easily. I have several filter sockets and if you do as many oil changes as I do in a week on different vehicles, you will run into one (usually foreign) car that they will not fit on or some cheap filter put on by He-man that just wont grab.
Also since I work at customers homes, I would not risk oil getting on the driveway by punching a hole in it with a screw driver. So, if used properly, you will not break the oil filter with channel-lock pliers.
