I've got me a Clogged shower tub...I've read others answers, but mines' different..here's why.
My tub won't drain properly....there is atleast 3 inhces of water at my feet by the time my shower is over. We've tried Drano, we've tried a hanger, and we've tried pliers...w/ no luck. The reason...cuz its not hair or soap build up in there...a few weeks back...I had taken a chunk of old CAULK that was around the shower head and set it aside...Well ofcourse I forgot about it, and eventually it fell down and is now clogging up my stupid shower/tub drain...We did see it one day, so we know thats what it is...but its down to far now for us to reach it. WHAT CAN I DO ? OMG OMGOMG..ALSO...I did try to use a plunger...but when I did that..water would squueeek on out of the round thingy thats above the actual drain....its the switch to open and close the drain....not sure if that makes sense or not.but its a round silver plate..and water came pressing out of that w/ every thrust...so Just checking if that is normal too. ?
unless the caulk was a chunk the size of a golf ball I doubt it plugged the drain by itself. First thing to do, the strainer, the hole that the water drains through. Remove it, just the cover, should be one screw, if it's just a hole, thats part of the problem there. Second that lever looking thingy, is called a trip lever, remove that too. (the chrome cover) Now, stuff a wet washcloth or whatever will work into the hole for the trip waste. Put water in the tub and plunge the crap out of it but make sure that the washcloth doesn't come out. Does this/did this help? Just taking out the trip waste may have helped on it's own, they are famous for losing adjustment over time.
Secondly, chemicals are not bad when used correctly but, draino is garbage. IF you are adept enough to swap out the tub waste and overflow or know someone who can. Switch it to a lift and turn type waste and overflow. They won't lose adjustment. As far as drain cleaners go for a bath tub I'd reccomend flow easy, available at Lowe's. Concentrated sulphuric acid. Follow the directions exactly. It won't eat the caulk but as I said I doubt that a big enough piece of caulk could go down the drain to cause the problem by itself.
Something else is contributing to it. Water coming out the overflow when plunging is normal, it tells me that you have a blockage in the pipe tho. And probably big enough to choke off at least 1/2 of it.
